Sidney Community School

Professional Development

 

 

   

        Sidney Community School is entering the second year of participation as a pilot school in the Iowa Professional Development Model.  In partnership with Loess Hills Area Education Agency 13 and the Iowa Department of Education, the staff is implementing the professional development model.  The teaching staff is receiving weekly instruction in an effort to increase their knowledge and help them positively impact student achievement.  This year's focus for staff development is in the following areas:

                *  Problem Solving

                *  Reading Comprehension

 

School begins at 9:30 a.m. each Monday to allow the teaching staff to work collaboratively to refine their teaching skills in these areas.

 

        A summary of the professional development at Sidney was prepared by the Iowa Department of Education as a Case Study.  This study will be use by other districts in Iowa as they begin the implementation of the model.  The Case Study and follow-up reports are available on the Iowa Department of Education's website at:
