***Just a few words about My Space and Face Book***

            I know you all know what My Space and Face Book are and what they are about.  I also know you have been told the very things

 I’m going to tell you.  The fact is that you need to listen.  My Space and Face Book are forms of expression and you most certainly can do

what you want, but that doesn’t mean later on in life things might not come back to bite you in the end.

            Colleges, employers, etc. are checking out these sites and others like it.  They are looking at your moral character.  People are being

denied entrance to their college of choice or are not being hired because of these postings.  It is easy to say “I was just a kid” or “It was only a

joke.”  Those lines won’t work when it counts.  Your character is what you make of it.

            Please think carefully about the choice you are making about what you put on My Space and Face Book.

 

 

  1. The Dale Schroeder Memorial Scholarship Program is for seniors from communities between 1-10,000 residents.  Must have a GPA of 2.500 and be attending Iowa State, Iowa, or University of Northern Iowa.  Go to www.act.org/daleschroeder for application.  Deadline is May 30, 2008 by 5:00pm. 

 

  1. The Sidney PTA Loan Fund is a LOAN!!!  Loans must be paid back.  There are applications in Mr. Hughes’ office.  There are returned to Mr. Hughes when filled out.

 

  1. The Christie H. Hein Memorial Scholarship is being given to students wishing to pursue a career in one of the following fields:  Fish & Game Management, Biology, Environmental Quality Control, Range Management, Economics, Forestry, or any other area of conservation.  Deadline is May 1, 2008.  See Mr. Hughes for an application.

 

  1. The Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity is offering one $500 scholarship and five $100 scholarships to men entering the University of Northern   Iowa.  The Balanced Man Scholarship seeks qualified men who embody the principles of a balanced life, sound mind and sound body.  Deadline is April 19, 2008.  See Mr. Hughes for an application.

 

  1. Great Clips is offering five $300 scholarships.  Must be pursuing a career in cosmetology or barbering.  Deadline is June 30, 2008.  See Mr. Hughes for an application.

 

  1. The Nishna  Botany Lodge #153 Masonic Lodge Scholarship has been posted before but I no applications have been turned in.  Please see Mr. Hughes for an application ASAP.
