  1. United State JCI Senate Foundation Scholarship Program is offering $1,000 grants to seniors planning on to continue their education.  No details or specific were given.  Go to www.iajcisenate.org to download application.  Deadline is January 6, 2008.

 

  1. The Iowa Soybean Association Ag Scholarships are being given in the amount of $2,000.  Must have a GPA of 3.000 or better, show community leadership, involvement, current involvement with FFA, 4-H, etc. and school activities.  Describe future plans in agriculture and submit an essay “How do you see your role in the future of agriculture and/or the soybean industry in the five years following graduation.   Deadline is March 1, 2008.  See Mr. Hughes for an application.

 

  1. VEISHEA scholarships are being offered in the amount of $500 for students entering Iowa State University.  There are six Leadership Awards and two Community Involvement Awards.  Leadership Award= top 15% of class and 26 or higher on ACT.  Community Award=GPA of 3.000 or higher.  Deadline is February 4, 2008.  Applications are on line at www.veishea.iastate.edu. 

 

  1. First Friday Breakfast Club is awarding 4-6 scholarships in the amount of $2,500 each for student’s efforts to reduce homophobia and increase awareness and tolerance of gay and lesbian issues in their schools and communities.  Go to www.ffbciowa.org for applications.  Deadline is March 31, 2008.

 

  1. Wayne State College is offering Art Scholarships.  Must have examples of work to show.  Deadline is February 25, 2008.  See Mr. Hughes for application.

 

  1. Southeast Community College (Milford, Lincoln, or Beatrice) is offering a number of scholarships online.  Apply at https://scc.scholarships.nelnet.net/

Deadline is February 1, 2008.

 

  1. Professional Educators of Iowa are offering scholarships to students interested in education and military.  Most require a parent’s membership in this organization.  Deadline is April 1, 2008.  Applications are in Mr. Hughes’ office.

 

  1. The 22nd Annual Donna Reed Performing Arts Festival will be held June 16-21, 2008.  There are scholarships for some students attending the workshop.  Go to www.donnareed.org for applications.  Deadline was not given.

 

  1. Best Buy Scholarship is being offered to seniors with a GPA of 2.50 or better and have a commitment to volunteering, community service, or work experience.  Deadline is February 15, 2008.  Go to www.bestbuy.com/scholarships to apply.

 

  1. Fremont County:  Conservation Districts of Iowa 2008 Scholarship Awards are being given this year.  There will be three scholarships in the amount of $1,800, $1,200, and $1,000.  Regional winners from the other six regions who do not receive the state awards will receive $300.  Criteria:  45 pts for leadership, 30 pts for scholastic achievement, 25 pts for need.  Applications are online at http://www.cdiowa.org/awards.html .  I also have a copy of the application.  All applications must be typed.  Deadline is February 25, 2008.

 

  1. 2008 Youth Scholarship Program For Young People Who are Cancer Patients/Survivors.  Must have been diagnosed before the age of 21 and be younger than 25 at the time of application.  Deadline is March 15, 2008.  See Mr. Hughes for applications.

 

  1. The Monsanto Company in association with the National Association of Farm Broadcasting will give the Commitment to Agriculture Scholarship Program.  Scholarships will be $1,500 to 100 students.  Must plan to pursue a career in an agriculture-related field.  Deadline is February 15, 2008.  Go to www.monsanto.com or www.ffa.org to apply or www.nafb.com.
