Scholarship List

  1. The Winter Dance Party Scholarship in the amount of $500 will be given to a senior enrolled in college with a music major.  Must submit an essay “Why I have chosen to major in music.”  Deadline is April 15, 2008.  See Mr. Hughes for an application.

 

  1. The Leo H. Grether Memorial Scholarship is being giving in the amount of $1,000 to senior enrolled in college with choral Music education as a career.  Must submit an essay, a tape with two selection of a contrasting nature and lists of school and community involvement in music and good works.  Deadline is    April 15, 2008.  See Mr. Hughes for an application.

 

  1. Iowa Western Community College has a number of scholarships available to students.  Must fill out on application and will be considered for all of them.  I have book with all scholarships listed.  The computer studies scholarships require their own application.  See Mr. Hughes for details.  Deadline is March 15, 2008.

 

  1. Carriage House Foundation, a charitable division of the Nebraska New Car & Truck Dealers Association, is giving a $1,000 scholarship to seniors studying automotive related majors.  Must be attending one of six community colleges in Nebraska.  Deadline is April 4, 2008.

 

  1. The Sidney American Legion Auxiliary Rodeo Merit Award is being offered to seniors from Sidney.  Must be full time students in a post-secondary institution.  Deadline is April 15, 2008.  See Mr. Hughes for applications.  Also, completed applications are due back to Mr. Hughes.

 

  1. The Jesse A. and Irene W. McIntyre Scholarship is being offered to 4-H seniors from Fremont County.  One boy and one girl will receive a scholarship.  Must be a member of the 4-H.  Call (712) 374-2351 for applications.              Deadline is March 31, 2008.

 

  1. The John C. Culver Scholarship is being offered by the Iowa Democratic Party.  1st place is $1,500 and 2nd place is $1,000.  Scholarship will be awarded to a resident of Iowa who attends any public or private 2 or 4 year institution.  Preference to those who have demonstrated an interest in politics & government and demonstrate financial need and academic excellence.  Deadline is Friday, April 4, 2008 at 5:00pm. 

 

  1. The Southwest Iowa Educational Foundation has a number of scholarships available to Sidney students as well as surrounding communities.  Go http://swiowaeducationalfoundation.org/ to search out scholarships you are eligible for.  Deadline on all is March 26, 2008 in their office, so I would make sure it was sent well in advance, not on that day or the day before.   Scholarships to look into:    

 

#3  Barbara Wilson Memorial Scholarship Top 50%  $1,400
#4  Western Iowa Mutual Insurance Association Top 50% & GPA  3.00  Renewable for 4 years.  Parents must be policy holders.
#10  Dorothy Horn Memorial Scholarship Top 50%  $1,000  Preference to Education majors
# 11  Iowa West Foundation Scholarship Top 50%  $1,000
# 12  Jack Hyler Memorial Scholarship Top 25% & GPA  3.00  $1,000   Preference to Education majors
#16  SWI Educational Foundation, Inc.  Outstanding Student Award  Top 25% & ACT of 25 or higher,  $1,000
#17  Gladys & Frank W. Pechacek, Sr. Memorial Scholarship Top 50%   $1,000 and must be attending UNI in Cedar Falls
#18  Wilson Pechacek P.L.C. Scholarship Top 50%  $1,000
#19  Eddie Lee Memorial Scholarship Top 50%  $1,000  Preference to wrestlers, cheerleaders, mat maids, or managers in wrestling

  1. Sidney Alumni & Friends, Inc. will be offering either 2 or 3 scholarships this year.  The amount has not yet been decided.  Go to the Sidney School website at http://sidneyschools.connections.net and on the bottom of the page there is a link to Sidney Alumni & Friends, Inc. The scholarship is in on that link.  Deadline to Mr. Hughes is April 1, 2008.

 

  1. Sidney Monday Club will be offering a $100 scholarship to a Sidney Senior.  See Mr. Hughes for an application.  Deadline is April 1, 2008.

 

  1. The Sidney Education Association is offering a scholarship to a Sidney Senior planning on becoming a teacher.  See Mrs. Focht or Mr. Hughes for an application. There is also an interview process.  Deadline is April 1, 2008.

 

  1. The Principal IT Scholarship is being given to Seniors planning on majoring in Computer Science, MIS, CIS, Computer Programming, or related field.  $2,500 a year for up to four years.  Preference given to those with a summer internship with The Principal.  Apply online at http://www.principal.com/careers/scholarships.htm .  Deadline is March 15, 2008.
