1st Scholarship List

January 2008

 

1.      The Ann Griffel Iowa Women’s Golf Association (IWGA) Scholarship Award of $1,500 is being given this year.  Must be female, of excellent character, enroll in an accredited institute of higher learning in Iowa, and have participated in at least one golfing event.  See Mr. Hughes for an application.

 

2.      Sammy 2008 is a scholarship program giving $7,500 scholarship to 25 students nationally.  Criteria is based on:  academic performance, athletic excellence, leadership, community service, and what role milk plays in their success.  Applications are found at www.sammy.bodybymilk.com .  Deadline is March 7, 2008.

 

3.      The Fremont County Soil and Water Conservation District is giving up to five internship/scholarships in the amount of $1,000 to seniors from Fremont County.  The criteria based on need, leadership, and scholastic achievement.  Must be attending a post-secondary institution.  Need not be in ag or related area but is preferred.  This is a different scholarship than the Conservation Districts of Iowa Scholarship.  Deadline is February 25, 2008.  See Mr. Hughes for application or go to www.fremontswcd.org

 

4.      Peru State College has two music scholarships available.   Clements Band Scholarship $2,000 and the Helen Naeve Douglas Music Scholarship $500.  Auditions on Tuesday, March 11, 2008.  See Mr. Hughes for details.

 

5.      The University of Nebraska in Omaha (UNO) is offering scholarships in Theatre (deadline Feb. 15th) and Creative Writing  (deadline Feb. 29th).  See Mr. Hughes for details.

 

6.      The Robert D. Blue Scholarship is being offered.  The number changes from year to year, but last year they gave 25 $1,000 scholarships.  Based on academic performance, essay, and financial need.  Deadline is May 10, 2008.  Go to www.rdblue.org for application.

 

7.      The Dulcie Jean Birkby Endowed Memorial Scholarship of $500 will be given to a Sidney female student.  Must have shown a keen interest in citizenship, community betterment, and leadership.  Apply no matter what your GPA.  Deadline is March 31, 2008.  Go to www.omahafoundation.org for application.  Click on Grants & Scholarships, then Endowment Funds of SWI, then Fremont County. 

 

8.      The G. Rex Gibson Endowed Memorial Scholarship of $250 is being given to seniors from Fremont County.  Deadline is March 30, 2008.  Go to www.omahafoundation.org for application.  Click on Grants & Scholarships, then Endowment Funds of SWI, then Fremont County.

 

9.      The Grape Community Hospital Auxiliary will be given to two seniors in the amount of $500 who are planning to enter a study in the Health related fields. 

The Grape Community Hospital Foundation will award three scholarships in the amount of $500 to applicants planning to enter a study in the Health related fields.

The Marjorie Brown Nursing Scholarship will be a $500 award to an applicant who is entering the field of Nursing. 

 

All three scholarships have the same application.  All of these are based on scholastic achievement and financial need.  Deadline is April 1, 2008.  Applications are available from Mr. Hughes.

 

10.  The Savannah College of Art & Design offers scholarship for students with 3.00 GPA.  Go to www.scad.edu/scholarships for more information.

 

11.  The Beta Sigma Psi Lutheran Fraternity—Epsilon Chapter is offering two Darryl Jahn Memorial Scholarships.  These are two $1,000 scholarships to Lutheran gentlemen attending Iowa State University.  Must be active in their communities and churches, have a good academic achievement, and involvement and recognition for extra-curricular activities.  Deadline is Friday, February 29, 2008.  See Mr. Hughes for application.

 

12.  The Fremont-Page Corn/Soybean Growers Association Scholarship is being given this year.  Must be a resident of Fremont or Page County and the child or grandchild of a member of the Fremont-Page Corn/Soybean Growers Association.  Deadline is March 1, 2008.  See Mr. Hughes for an application.

 

13.  The Sidney FCCLA is offering a scholarship.  More details to come.

 

14.  The Grand Lodge of Iowa, A.F. & A.M. is offering a $2,000 scholarship to about 60 seniors.  I had put this in the September list.  Bob Birkby called to have me remind you the deadline is February 1, 2008.  You can apply at www.gl-iowa.org or I do have one paper copy.

 

15.  The Automobile Dealers Foundation for Education is offering a scholarship.  Must be pursuing a career in automotive or truck-related area.  Must also have the signature from an IADA membership dealer (President or General Manager)  See Mr. Hughes for an application.
